Twitter has started testing a feature that allows users to watch YouTube videos directly from their timeline on iOS
Only a few days after announcing improved image display on Twitter, the microblogging platform is now looking into ways to improve the way YouTube videos are displayed. Twitter is introducing a new way for iOS users to watch YouTube videos directly from their Twitter timeline in today’s update. This feature allows you to watch YouTube videos without having to leave the conversation. There will be no need to exit the app and watch the video in a browser or the YouTube app independently.
Prior to the update, YouTube videos on iOS did not play in preview, and users had to exit the app after clicking the link to open the YouTube iOS app. Before launching this feature, iOS Twitter experimented with different ways to view images, which proved to be successful. Following that, Twitter experimented with playing YouTube videos in the home timeline, allowing users to scroll and watch videos without interruption.
Twitter is using the YouTube iFrame Player API for this trial, which will be available on iOS in the US, Japan, Canada, and Saudi Arabia before being rolled out globally. There was no indication of when all Twitter users would be able to use it. The company announced at the beginning of this month that it would focus on improving the media-watching experience on its app, which will include both uploading and displaying media like images and videos.
Twitter launched an image preview feature for iOS and Android last week, allowing users to see a detailed overview of the image. Previously, images were cropped, and important details were sometimes obscured. Users can now post 4K photos on the Twitter app on both Android and iOS, thanks to a new feature in the Data usage settings.
Twitter is working on new features to improve the platform for creators. Another feature called Super Follow will be available soon, according to the company. It will allow creators to post content to Twitter that is based on subscribers. Sales and newsletters are examples of exclusive media content. However, in order to assist creators whose content is frequently shared on social media channels, Twitter must improve the system for posting content, whether it is images or videos.
